Grandma Tay Homemade Chinese New Year Cookies

The story of Grandma Tay Cookies goes way back to 1974… when a humble housewife started to make chinese new year cookies, in her free time at home, while looking after her kids.

At first, the orders for her homemade chinese new year cookies came mainly from her friends and relatives. Soon, however, word spread about her delicious “huang li bing” (pineapple tarts) and more and more orders started pouring in.

Year by year, as the demand for her homemade cookies grew, the house wife had no choice but to enlist the help of the whole family, including her children, to prepare the lunar new year pastries.

It became a Tay family tradition.

One day, during chinese new year in 2003, by chance, the family stumbled upon an opportunity to lease a store for a day in Chinatown to sell their homemade cookies. The response was overwhelming… Everyone loved the cookies and it sold out within the first few hours!

Ever since, Grandma Tay and her family remains a common sight in Chinatown during Chinese New Year… selling Grandma Tay’s beloved cookies.

And yes, these days… the grandkids help out as well… by bringing smiles to everyone’s hearts =)
